Tim Gavin Tour Of Matix Headquarters
No, this isn’t a rickroll, this is a tour of Matix Clothing headquarters given by Tim Gavin, the ‘Matix Bossman’. Matix Clothing was founded by pro skateboarders Tim Gavin and the legendary Daewon Song. Their inspiration behind creating the clothing company was that the two were fed up with clothing that disintegrated upon contact with concrete. Sure rips in your jeans isn’t always awful looking, but a skateboarder’s clothing tends to spend more time making contact with pavement than most people. It’s nice to know there are companies like Matix out there making products designed for skateboarders by skateboarders. It also looks like they are having a good time doing it.

Final Results: 2010 Maloof Money Cup NYC
Well it was a crazy weekend of skateboarding for the guys at the Maloof Money Cup. The first day was hot as hell, and the second day almost ended early because of an approaching storm. Good weather or bad, these skaters were determined to win some cash money. After the first day of skating it was tough to say who was going to win the whopping $100,000 prize. I had my money on Pudwill, but it was really anyones contest to win, and Chris Cole came out on top placing first in the overall competition. This makes the second year in a row that Chris Cole has won, so next MMC expect all the buzz to be about a Chris Cole 3-peat.
There was great skateboarding besides Chris Cole, and if you didn’t get a chance to watch the contest you can catch it all over on Fuel.tv. Here’s an interview with Chris Cole finding out he won the competition, followed with the final results.

Day 1: Wrap Up – 2010 Maloof Money Cup
The first day of the 2010 Maloof Money Cup is over, the results are in, and as expected the skating was awesome. Paul Rodriguez ended the day in first place, however I wouldn’t count out Torey Pudwill, Chris Cole or quite a few others at this point. All three were landing some amazing tricks, but more importantly were making sure they hit everything in the park. It was a hot day, and you could see the skaters getting pretty exhausted as the competition went on. The heat didn’t stop them from finishing the day off with the best trick contest on the Tech Deck manny ledge in the center of the park. I guarantee the guys will be happy to get some rest tonight, but there is still one more day of skating for the top 12 from todays contest. Also the amateur contest is set to start at 11 am, so set your alarm and be ready for a full day of kick ass skating.

Maloof Money Cup Begins Tomorrow
New York got itself a brand new million dollar skatepark thanks to those Maloof brothers. Not only is the park based off famous skate spots, but those spots will be officially broken in tomorrow when it hosts the 2010 Maloof Money Cup. The skateboarders competing this weekend are amazing, but considering the 100,000 dollars in prize money it is no surprise the best of the best are showing up. I’m sure they will all work there asses off too, and I’m looking forward to watching some awesome skating.
2 Girls 1 Board – Hubba Hubba
I haven’t ever purchased anything from Hubba Wheels before, but I’ve decided they deserve some free advertising. Hubba has taken one of the easiest best advertising past-times, placing gorgeous women near their products, and has me grinning from ear to ear. Local skate shops take note: I can never resist buying grip tape with a hot chick on it.
Lets face it, skateboarding is a male dominated sport, and what better way to advertise to men than giving us at least one thing we all love, women. As much as I love skateboarding, the women of Hubba’s website keep me interested in their site, and I’m still hoping to see a pool skate session with the ladies. Anyway, if you want to see what I mean just check out this video ‘titorial’ on how to set up your board by Hubba girls Marsha and Hailey .
Texting While Skateboarding
I’m not really a big fan of using cell phones, and as a result I’m not really much of a text message person either. With that said I understand why people like to text message. I liked using my pager for the same reason. It is quick and effective communication. Unfortunately effective does not always equate to safe, and for one 12 year old skateboarder who was paying too much attention to his texting paid the price when he was struck by a car. With that said, there may be no law about texting while skateboarding, but I would highly encourage skateboarders to not text while skating. It’s easy enough to get off your board for a few seconds, type your message, hit send, and move on.
Mondays With Mike V – Episode #6.
If you haven’t been to Mike Vallely’s website recently you’ve been missing out on his weekly video uploads titled “Mondays With Mike V”. This Monday brings us episode #6 which starts out with Mike’s daughter playing some Iron Man on the guitar. I have to say Lucy is very cool, but I can’t figure out why she pronounces her last name Valley. Maybe she just skips over the third ‘L” because she is too cool for extra syllables.
As for Mike, in addition to being a cool dad and great skater, he is also a very entertaining guy. He doesn’t seem to hold anything back as evidenced by his joke about his delicious weiner (not my words, but his) or when skating. In addition to Mike Vallely, Ben Raybourn appears in this weeks episode skating the private ramp at Vans corporate office with Mike, and then followed by a sweet pool sessions where Jeff Grosso pulls off a monster board slide you just have to see. So far I’m loving Monday’s with Mike V.

Vans Sun Diego Am Slam Belmont Park
The Vans Sun Diego AM Slam skateboard contest series has officially begun and it looks like it will be a great time. This last weekend people showed up to Belmont Skate Park in San Diego for the first stop in the six part series. One thing that makes this particular event interesting to watch is the amount of variety they have from pros like Greg Lutzka and Chris Cole all the way down to the super talented 13 and under. Although there is prize money associated with the contest the event is more about the heart of skateboarding, having fun. There are still five more events scheduled in this contest series so if you are in California and hoping to check it out, or compete, head over to Sun Diego’s event page.

Uganda Is Ready For The X-Games
It was only recently that I was turned onto the Uganda Skateboard Union, but their site immediately put a smile on my face. These are people that are making due with what they have, using hand me down shoes and skateboards, and finding a way to skate in a spot where you wouldn’t expect to even find a skateboard. I guess it just goes to show that skateboarding has really grown into quite the international sport.
While skateboarding isn’t currently an event in the Olympic Games, skateboarders continue to set their eyes on the X-Games, considered by many to be the Olympic Games of extreme sports. With that said, it is no surprise that the guys from the Uganda Skateboard Union have also set their sites on the X-Games. Be warned skateboarders, you may have not heard of them before, but they are watching your videos and training very hard.

Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama!
Well it is Mother’s Day once again, and if you haven’t already thanked your mom for being awesome I suggest you stop surfing the web and go let her know how much you care. If you happen to be a mom let me wish you a happy Mother’s Day. I know when it comes to mothers and skateboarding I can’t imagine my own mother on a skateboard, but that’s not to say that mothers, or even grandmothers can’t skate. Every year on Mother’s Day a group of women (The International Society of Skateboarding Moms) holds an event called Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama that not only shows us that mothers and daughters can skateboard, but that they love to skateboard. Pretty cool!
The charity event, hosted by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization SKATEBOARD MOMS and its community service project ROLLING FOR READING, features skateboarding women of all ages and abilities rolling for fun, fitness, and sisterly stoke!
Our Rockin’ Raffle is once again looking to be stocked with awesome prizes. Proceeds this year will benefit FOCAL, aka Friends of Children and Literature, an all-volunteer group based at LA’s Central Library, which has been hit by devastating budget cuts.
This years 7th annual Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama is being held at Skatelab indoor skatepark in Simi Valley, CA, from 1 pm to 4 pm. So if your mom happens to skateboard, and you are close to Simi Valley you still have a chance to make your way down to support a good cause and shred the park with mom. If you can’t make this event and happen to be interested in other upcoming women’s skateboarding events check out The Side Project’s event calender.
