Well it was a crazy weekend of skateboarding for the guys at the Maloof Money Cup. The first day was hot as hell, and the second day almost ended early because of an approaching storm. Good weather or bad, these skaters were determined to win some cash money. After the first day of skating it [...]
Jason Dill – Digi Cam Eleven
I’ve been really busy lately, and haven’t been able to get much done on the site. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been following the skate scene and watching some videos. I just caught this video of Jason Dill skating what looks to be a temporary skatepark. The terrain is nothing special, but it’s amazing what someone like Dill can do with even the most basic ramps and grind box.
Free Lunch With Duane Peters
Every Wednesday the folks over at Shred or Die buy a skateboarder some lunch in exchange for an interview. Some weeks you never know who you are going to get and what they might say. This week’s lunch was with Duane Peters, The Master of Disaster, almost 50, and one old guy you don’t want to mess with. Thanks to some free food Duane was nice enough to share some stories about his life (although I’m sure these are quite PG compared to what he might have shared prior to being sober). I’d like to wish him the best of luck in his sobriety also. Duane, you don’t want to be the guy with no teeth.
Skateboard Madness Got A Hold Of Me
I was in the mood for something old school. I think it was all the Maloof Money Cup I watched this weekend, and I wanted to remember what skateboarding was once like. This video clip is from the 1980 movie Skateboard Madness. Growing up in the 80′s I’m not sure how I missed this movie, but maybe it really is as hokey as the reviews make it out to be. Apparently there is a claymation rat and a claymation hippie skating a concrete pool which doesn’t sound hokey but awesome. It also has one of my favorite comics Phil Hartman as the narrator.

Tim Gavin Tour Of Matix Headquarters
No, this isn’t a rickroll, this is a tour of Matix Clothing headquarters given by Tim Gavin, the ‘Matix Bossman’. Matix Clothing was founded by pro skateboarders Tim Gavin and the legendary Daewon Song. Their inspiration behind creating the clothing company was that the two were fed up with clothing that disintegrated upon contact with concrete. Sure rips in your jeans isn’t always awful looking, but a skateboarder’s clothing tends to spend more time making contact with pavement than most people. It’s nice to know there are companies like Matix out there making products designed for skateboarders by skateboarders. It also looks like they are having a good time doing it.

Final Results: 2010 Maloof Money Cup NYC
Well it was a crazy weekend of skateboarding for the guys at the Maloof Money Cup. The first day was hot as hell, and the second day almost ended early because of an approaching storm. Good weather or bad, these skaters were determined to win some cash money. After the first day of skating it was tough to say who was going to win the whopping $100,000 prize. I had my money on Pudwill, but it was really anyones contest to win, and Chris Cole came out on top placing first in the overall competition. This makes the second year in a row that Chris Cole has won, so next MMC expect all the buzz to be about a Chris Cole 3-peat.
There was great skateboarding besides Chris Cole, and if you didn’t get a chance to watch the contest you can catch it all over on Fuel.tv. Here’s an interview with Chris Cole finding out he won the competition, followed with the final results.

Day 1: Wrap Up – 2010 Maloof Money Cup
The first day of the 2010 Maloof Money Cup is over, the results are in, and as expected the skating was awesome. Paul Rodriguez ended the day in first place, however I wouldn’t count out Torey Pudwill, Chris Cole or quite a few others at this point. All three were landing some amazing tricks, but more importantly were making sure they hit everything in the park. It was a hot day, and you could see the skaters getting pretty exhausted as the competition went on. The heat didn’t stop them from finishing the day off with the best trick contest on the Tech Deck manny ledge in the center of the park. I guarantee the guys will be happy to get some rest tonight, but there is still one more day of skating for the top 12 from todays contest. Also the amateur contest is set to start at 11 am, so set your alarm and be ready for a full day of kick ass skating.

Maloof Money Cup Begins Tomorrow
New York got itself a brand new million dollar skatepark thanks to those Maloof brothers. Not only is the park based off famous skate spots, but those spots will be officially broken in tomorrow when it hosts the 2010 Maloof Money Cup. The skateboarders competing this weekend are amazing, but considering the 100,000 dollars in prize money it is no surprise the best of the best are showing up. I’m sure they will all work there asses off too, and I’m looking forward to watching some awesome skating.
Richie Jackson – And Now
I have to admit, I love this video part by Richie Jackson in Transworld’s “And Now.” This guy is on a whole different level. He’s doing caspers off of walls, flip tricks between odd shaped bars, power slides into board slides, board slides across chain link fences, a nose/tail slide down an escalator and other far out stuff. Oh ya, and he looks like Captain Jack Sparrow in this skateboarding video mind-fuck. What else can I say besides click play and enjoy.

2 Girls 1 Board – Hubba Hubba
I haven’t ever purchased anything from Hubba Wheels before, but I’ve decided they deserve some free advertising. Hubba has taken one of the easiest best advertising past-times, placing gorgeous women near their products, and has me grinning from ear to ear. Local skate shops take note: I can never resist buying grip tape with a hot chick on it.
Lets face it, skateboarding is a male dominated sport, and what better way to advertise to men than giving us at least one thing we all love, women. As much as I love skateboarding, the women of Hubba’s website keep me interested in their site, and I’m still hoping to see a pool skate session with the ladies. Anyway, if you want to see what I mean just check out this video ‘titorial’ on how to set up your board by Hubba girls Marsha and Hailey .
Texting While Skateboarding
I’m not really a big fan of using cell phones, and as a result I’m not really much of a text message person either. With that said I understand why people like to text message. I liked using my pager for the same reason. It is quick and effective communication. Unfortunately effective does not always equate to safe, and for one 12 year old skateboarder who was paying too much attention to his texting paid the price when he was struck by a car. With that said, there may be no law about texting while skateboarding, but I would highly encourage skateboarders to not text while skating. It’s easy enough to get off your board for a few seconds, type your message, hit send, and move on.
